A furnace rated in Ohio does less work in Thornton

Air at 5,300 feet is roughly five-sixths as dense as it is at sea level. Combustion equipment is derated for it, cooling equipment moves less mass of air for the same fan speed, and a duct system sized off a sea-level table is short before anyone switches it on.

None of that is exotic — it is standard practice here, and it is the reason a system that looked fine on paper can disappoint in the house.

Questions

Asked often

Does altitude really change how a furnace performs?

Yes. Combustion equipment is derated with elevation — the usual figure is four per cent per thousand feet above two thousand — and gas pressure and orifice sizing follow the manufacturer's instructions for the altitude. Our altitude page puts your own elevation into the arithmetic.

My house is cold in one room and fine everywhere else. Is the furnace too small?

Usually not. It is more often airflow: a duct run that was added later, a return that cannot get air back, or static pressure high enough to limit the blower. We measure before proposing anything.

Do you work on evaporative coolers?

We service them where they are already fitted, and we will tell you honestly when one is not going to cope with a given week. We do not pretend they are the same thing as refrigerated cooling.

Do you serve businesses as well as houses?

Yes — packaged rooftop units, split systems, warehouse heating and equipment rooms, with scheduled maintenance logged per unit.

Will I get a price before the work starts?

Yes. Repairs are priced in writing after the diagnosis, and projects are proposed on paper before anything is ordered.
